Crochet Granny Shawl & Border AS YOU GO [Free Video Tutorial & Written Pattern!]

Learn how to crochet this easy granny triangle shawl with an inbuilt border!

Perfect for variegated or self striping yarns, the simple ONE ROW REPEAT pattern creates the border as you go to create a pretty sawtooth / scalloped border around all 3 sides of your crochet shawl :)

Crochet Granny Shawl and Inbuilt Border AS YOU GO WRITTEN PATTERN

USA STITCH TERMS


Hook Size(s): according to your yarn


For my shawl I used 3 x Yarnsmiths Lagoon Chunky yarn (shade 2N020) with a 6mm Hook

Abbreviations:

โ—        Ch = Chain

โ—        Ch sp = Chain space

โ—        DC = Double crochet

โ—        Rep = Repeat

โ—        St = Stitch

Make a magic ring.

Row 1: Ch 3 and working in the ring, make 2 DC, ch 2, 3 DC, ch 2, 3 DC, ch 2, and 3 DC, ch 2 and sl st to join.

Pull the tail to close the ring.

Row 2: Turn and make 3 sl st to reach the corner.

Ch 3 and in the ch sp, make 2 DC, ch 2, 3 DC, ch 1.

In the next ch sp, make 3 DC, ch 2, 3 DC, ch 1.

In the next ch sp, make 3 DC, ch 2, 3 DC.

Row 3: Turn and make 3 sl st to reach the corner.

Ch 3 and in the ch 2 sp, make 3 DC, ch 2, 3 DC, ch 1.

In the ch sp along the side, make 3 DC, ch 1.

In the ch 2 sp of the top corner, make 3 DC, ch 2, 3 DC, ch 1.

In the ch sp along the other side, make 3 DC, ch 1.

In the last ch 2 sp of the row, make 3 DC, ch 2, 3 DC.

Rows 4-onward: Rep row 3 for as big as you want the shawl to be.

Border Round: Turn and make 3 sl st to reach the corner.

Ch 3 and in the ch 2 sp, make 3 DC, ch 2, 3 DC.

In each ch sp along the side, make 2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC.

In the ch 2 sp of the top corner, make 3 DC, ch 2, 3 DC.

In each ch sp along the other side, make 2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC.

In the last ch 2 sp of the row, make 3 DC, ch 2, 3 DC.

Fasten off and cut the yarn. Weave in the ends.
