Crochet Granny Mesh Triangle Shawl WRITTEN PATTERN
USA STITCH TERMS
Hook Size(s): according to your yarn
For my shawl I used 2 x Lion Brand Mandala yarn cakes in the shade โAcre Woodsโ with a 4mm Hook
Abbreviations:
โ Ch = Chain
โ SC = Single Crochet
โ DC = Double Crochet
โ Ch3 Picot = Chain 3 picot stitch
โ St = Stitch
โ Sp = Space
โ Rep = Repeat
Ch3 Picot = Chain 3 then slip stitch under the front loop and front leg / bar of the single crochet stitch to secure
Row 1: Working in a Magic Ring:
Ch 4 (counts as DC + Ch 1 here and throughout the pattern) 3 DC, Ch 2, 3 DC, Ch 1, DC.
Fully tighten the magic ring.
Row 2: Ch 4 and TURN
Work 3 DC into the Ch 1 sp, Ch 1, [3 DC, Ch 2, 3 DC] in the Ch 2 sp, Ch 1, 3 DC in the Ch 1 sp, Ch 1 and end with 1 DC into the 3rd Ch of the Ch 4 turning chain from the row below.
Row 3: Ch 4 and TURN
Work [3 DC, Ch 1] into each Ch 1 sp until you reach the Ch 2 sp.
Work [3 DC, Ch2, 3 DC] into the Ch 2 sp
Work [Ch 1, 3 DC] into each Ch 1 sp until you reach the turning chain.
Work [Ch 1, 1 DC] into the 3rd Ch of the turning chain
Row 4: Repeat Row 3
Row 5: Ch 4 and TURN.
Work 1 DC into the same st.
Rep * [Ch 1, 1 DC] in top of DC st, Ch 1, Skip 1, 1 DC in next* until you reach the Ch 2 sp
Work [Ch 1, 1 DC, Ch 2, 1 DC] into the Ch 2 sp
Rep * [Ch 1, 1 DC] in top of DC st, Ch 1, Skip 1, 1 DC in next* until you reach the turning chain.
End with [1 DC, Ch 1, 1 DC] worked into the 3rd Ch of the turning chain.
Row 6: Ch 4 and TURN
Work 1 DC into the same st.
Rep * Ch 1, 1 DC in DC below* until you reach the Ch 2 sp
Work [Ch 1, 1 DC, Ch 2, 1 DC] into the Ch 2 sp
Rep * Ch 1, 1 DC in DC below* until you reach the turning chain
End with [1 DC, Ch 1, 1 DC] worked into the 3rd Ch of the turning chain.
Row 7: Repeat Row 6
Row 8: Repeat Row 6
Row 9: Ch 4 and TURN
Work 3 DC into the 1st Ch 1 sp.
Rep * Ch 1, skip Ch 1 sp, 3 DC in the next Ch 1 sp* until you reach the Ch 2 sp
Work [Ch 1, 3 DC, Ch 2, 3 DC] into the Ch 2 sp
Rep * Ch 1, skip Ch 1 sp, 3 DC in the next Ch 1 sp* until you reach the turning chain
End with [Ch 1, 1 DC] worked into the 3rd Ch of the turning chain.
Row 10: Ch 4 and TURN
Work [3 DC, Ch 1] into each Ch 1 sp until you reach the Ch 2 sp.
Work [3 DC, Ch2, 3 DC] into the Ch 2 sp
Work [Ch 1, 3 DC] into each Ch 1 sp until you reach the turning chain.
Work [Ch 1, 1 DC] into the 3rd Ch of the turning chain
Row 11: Repeat Row 10
Row 12: Repeat Row 10
Row 13 onwards: Repeat Rows 5 - 12 until shawl is desired size - do not cut yarn at the end of final repeat of Row 12
BORDER: Ch 1 and TURN
Work [1 SC, Ch3 Picot] into the same st.
Rep * Ch 3, 1 SC in the 2nd / middle DC from 3 DC Cluster below, Ch3 Picot* until you reach the Ch 2 sp
Work [Ch 3, 1 SC, Ch3 Picot] into the Ch 2 sp
Rep * Ch 3, 1 SC in the 2nd / middle DC from 3 DC Cluster below, Ch3 Picot* until you reach the turning chain.
Work [Ch 3, 1 SC, Ch3 Picot] into the 3rd Ch of the turning chain
Continuning along the bottom raw edge of your shawl, work [Ch 3, 1 SC in the Ch sp at the edge of the shawl, Ch3 Picot]
End with Ch 3, slip stitch to join to initial SC of the round to finish.
Ch 1, fasten off and cut your yarn.
Weave in all ends.
