Crochet Ridged Round Ripple Blanket Pattern

Learn how to crochet this beautiful textured round ripple 12 point star blanket! Combining regular and back post double crochet stitches, this blanket creates stunning ridges - perfect if you are looking for something a little bit different to the normal round star blankets 😀

The first 6 Rounds are the set up rounds, then it is a simple 3 row repeat for the pattern. Once you are comfortable with the pattern you can mix up where the ridge rows go to create unique blankets to your personal taste!

WRITTEN PATTERN - USA STITCH TERMS

Any hook size, any yarn - for my baby sized blanket I used 2 cakes of Hobbii Horizon yarn (550 meters per cake) with a 4mm Hook

Abbreviations:

·         Ch = Chain

·         SC = Single crochet

·         DC = Double crochet

·         BPDC = Back post double crochet

·         Sl st = Slip stitch

·         Rep = Repeat

·         Ch sp = Chain space

·         St = Stitch

Special Stitches:

Small Shell: 1 double crochet, chain two, 1 double crochet into the same space

Large Shell: 2 double crochet, chain two, 2 double crochet into the same space

Start with a magic ring.

Row 1: Ch 2 (always counts as 1 DC) and make 11 DC in the ring. Sl st to join and pull the tail to close the ring. (12)

Row 2: Ch 2 and 1 DC in the same st. Make 2DC inc in each st around. Sl st to join. (24)

Row 3: Ch 2 and rep *skip one st, 1 small shell (1 DC, ch 2, 1 DC) in the next st* all around. To finish the row, make (1 DC, ch 2) in the first st of the row (this will finish the small shell). Sl st to join. (12 small shells)

Row 4: Make 1 sl st into next stitch. Ch 2 and make (1 DC, ch 2, 2 DC) in the same space. In each ch sp across, make 1 large shell (2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC). Sl st to join. (12 large shells)

Row 5: Make 1 sl st into next stitch. Ch 2 and rep *1 large shell (2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC) in the ch sp, 1 DC, skip two st, 1 DC* across. To finish the round, skip the last two st and sl st to join.

Row 6: Make 1 sl st into next stitch. Ch 2 and make 1 DC. rep*1 large shell (2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC) in the ch sp, 2 DC, skip two st, 2 DC* across. To finish the round, skip the last two st and sl st to join.

Row 7: Make 1 sl st into next stitch. Ch 2 and make 1 BPDC in each st until you reach the ch sp. Make 1 small shell (1 DC, ch 2, 1 DC) in the ch sp and make the same amount of BPDC after the shell as you did leading up to it. Skip two st, make 1 BPDC in each st until you reach the ch sp, and make 1 small shell (1 DC, ch 2, 1 DC) in the next ch sp. Rep all around. To finish the round, skip the last two st and sl st to join.

Rows 8 and 9: Make 1 sl st into next stitch. Ch 2 and make 1 DC in each st until you reach the ch sp. Make 1 large shell (2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC) in the ch sp and make the same amount of DC after the shell as you did leading up to it. Skip two st, make 1 DC in each st until you reach the ch sp, and make 1 large shell (2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC) in the next ch sp. Rep all around. To finish the round, skip the last two st and sl st to join.

Rows 10-onward: Rep rows 7-9 until you reach the desired size for your blanket.
