Learn how to crochet a Corner to Corner Granny RECTANGLE with me! We will go step by step how to crochet the C2C Granny Rectangle (how to increase, maintain the rectangular shape and decrease your corner to corner granny rectangle) and how to crochet a border.

C2C Granny Rectangles have a tendency to flare and not sit squarely HOWEVER a tiny tweak to the traditional method solves this issue and I will show you how to make beautifully straight rectangles.

Crochet Corner to Corner RECTANGLE C2C Granny Stitch WRITTEN PATTERN

USA STITCH TERMS

Hook Size(s): according to your yarn

For my baby blanket (in the photos) I used 3 x Ciebebe Yarn Cakes with a 4mm Hook, 1 x Scheepjes Colour Crafter in Barnevelde for the border (1080 meters for blanket, 300 meters for the border)

For my blanket I did 57 rows for the width, 10 maintaining rows, 56 decrease rows. This gave me a blanket which was approximately 32 inches wide by 37 inches long (including the border)

Abbreviations:

• Ch = Chain

• DC = Double crochet

• Rep = Repeat

• St = Stitch

• Sl St = Slip Stitch

SPECIAL STITCH:

Granny Cluster: 3 Double Crochet Stitches in same Space/Stitch.

Extended Double Crochet: YO, insert hook into st, YO pull up a loop, YO pull through 1 loop, YO pull through 2 loops, YO pull through the last 2 loops.

Foundation: Ch 4, Sl St into 4th Ch. (Creates central ring)

Row 1: Ch 4, work 3 DC into central ring. Work an Extended DC. Ch 4, and turn.

Row 2: Work 3 DC in the space between the last 2 sts from the row below. (Creates increase) 3 DC in the space between the Ch 4 and the next st from the previous row, Extended DC in same sp. Ch 4, turn.

Row 3: Work 3 DC in the space between the last 2 sts from the row below. (Creates increase) 3 DC in between the granny clusters from previous row. 3 DC in the space between the Ch 4 and the next st from the previous row, Extended DC in same sp. Ch 4, turn.

Keep repeating Row 3, Increasing, placing 3 DC in between each set of Granny Clusters across, and ending with 3 DC in the space between the Ch 4 and the next st from the previous row, Extended DC in same sp. Until you reach the width you desire.

Once you have reached the width you would like, we are going to make it more rectangular, and create the length you want.

Maintaining (Decrease and Increase Section):

Row 1: Ch 3, turn. Sk 4 sts, work 3 DC in the sp between your first set of granny clusters from the previous row. Place Stitch Marker in the space from your Ch 3. (This is your decrease side) 3 DC in between each set of Granny Clusters across. 3 DC in the space between the Ch 4 and the next st from the previous row, Extended DC in same sp. (Increase side) Ch 4, turn.

Row 2: Work 3 DC in the space between the last 2 sts from the row below. (Increase) 3 DC in between each set of Granny Clusters across. Once you reach your stitch marker. Work 1 Extended DC into the Ch 3 space from the row below. (Decrease)

Keep Repeating Rows 1 and 2 until you reached the length you would like.

Finishing Rectangle (Decrease Section)

If you ended with an Increase side (Row 2 repeat)

Row 1: Ch 3, turn. Sk 4 sts, work 3 DC in the sp between your first set of granny clusters from the previous row. 3 DC in between each set of Granny Clusters across. Once you reach your decrease side, work 1 Extended DC in Ch 3 sp.

If you ended with a Decrease side (Row 1 repeat)

Row 1: Ch 3, turn. Sk 4 sts, work 3 DC in the sp between your first set of granny clusters from the previous row. 3 DC in between each set of Granny Clusters across. Once you reach your Increase side, work 1 Extended DC in between the Ch 4 and first st.

Row 2: Ch 3, turn. Sk 4 sts, work 3 DC in the sp between your first set of granny clusters from the previous row. 3 DC in between each set of Granny Clusters across. Once you reach end of row, work 1 Extended DC in Ch 3 sp.

Repeat Row 2 until you are down to just 1 Granny Cluster.

Final Row: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 DC in the Ch 3 space after the granny cluster.

Ch 1, cut yarn. Tie off.

Border

Attach yarn to any corner.

Ch 2 (counts as first DC), work 1 DC in same sp. Ch 2, work 2 DC in same sp. (Creates corner)

Place 2 DC in each side sp across.

Once you reach the next corner, work 2 DC, Ch 2, 2 DC in same sp.

Place 2 DC in each side sp across.

Once you reach the next corner, work 2 DC, Ch 2, 2 DC in same sp.

Place 2 DC in each side sp across.

Once you reach the next corner, work 2 DC, Ch 2, 2 DC in same sp.

Place 2 DC in each side sp across.

Sl st to beginning Ch 2.

You can keep going and repeat this for several rows to create a simple border.
