Crochet Block Stitch [Free Video Tutorial & Written Pattern!]

Learn how to crochet the Block Stitch!

A super easy 2 row repeat pattern that works up very quickly once you get going. It looks stunning if you change colour on each row but equally beautiful if worked up in one single colour - a great stitch you have in your crochet arsenal 🤗 A fantastic stitch for blankets and afghans!

Crochet Block Stitch WRITTEN PATTERN

USA STITCH TERMS

Hook Size(s): according to your yarn

For my sample in the video, I used Papayta Super Stitch with a 5.5mm Hook.

Abbreviations:

  • Ch = Chain

  • SC = Single crochet

  • DC = Double crochet

  • Rep = Repeat

  • St = Stitch



Block Stitch

Pattern repeat is 3 plus 2


Foundation: Create your desired chain length

DC into the 5th Ch from your hook.

DC into each ch across.

If you are changing colours do so here.


Row 2: Do not Ch. Turn work.

SC into the first st.

SC in-between the 2 DC from the row below.

*Ch 2, sk 3 sts, SC in-between the 2 DC from the row below.*

Repeat * * until end of row.

End with a SC in the turning Ch.

If you are changing colours do so here.


Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as a DC)

*Place 3 DC into the Ch 2 sp from the row below. *

Repeat * * across.

DC in the last st.

If you are changing colours do so here.


Row 4: Do not Ch. Turn work.

SC into the first st.

SC in-between the 2 DC from the row below.

*Ch 2, sk 3 sts, SC in-between the DC from the row below.*

Repeat * * until end of row.

End with a SC in the turning Ch.

If you are changing colours do so here.


Keep repeating Rows 3 and 4 until you reach the length you desire.


Tie off, and weave in any loose ends.
