How to Crochet Strips Together | JAYG in ROWS WRITTEN PATTERN

USA STITCH TERMS

Hook Size(s): according to your yarn

For my blanket (in the photos) I used scraps of Double Knit yarn with a 4mm hook. Each strip is 25 chains wide :)

Abbreviations:

Ch = Chain

SC = Single crochet

DC = Double crochet

Rep = Repeat

St = Stitch

Sl St = Slip Stitch

SPECIAL STITCH:

Double Crochet 2 Together: YO, Insert hook in st, YO, pull through 2 loops. YO insert hook into next st, YO, pull through 2 loops. YO pull through last 3 loops.

Foundation Row: Ch for your desired width.

Row 1: In the fourth ch from the hook, make 1 DC. (Work in the back bump of the chain for a clean edge)

Work DC in every Ch across.

Row 2: Turn, SC in first st, insert hook in SC just made, SC. (This creates a thick stitch to keep your edges straight)

Work DC in each st across.

Rows 3-onward: Rep row 2 for as long as you’d like your project to be.

Once you reach the desired length, fasten off and cut the yarn leaving long tail to weave in.

Joining Second Strip

Insert hook into back bump of the first St in the foundation row of your first strip. (This will be the skipped chains that count as your first DC of the foundation row)

Join new color for the strip.

Foundation Row: Ch same amount used in first strip.

Row 1: In the fourth ch from the hook, make 1 DC. (Work in the back bump of the chain for a clean edge)
Work DC in every Ch across.

Insert hook through the top of the row 1 of the first strip, sl st to join.

Row 2: Ch 1, find top of the DC from second row of first strip. Work SC. Turn work.

Work Double Crochet 2 Together over the first 2 sts.

DC in each st across.

Row 3: Turn, SC in first st, insert hook in SC just made, SC.

DC in each st across. Work last DC in the side of the SC made at beginning of row 2.

Find top of stitch of row 3 from the first strip. Sl St to join.

Repeat Rows 2-3 until you reach the same length of your first strip.

Repeat steps for all strips you want to add to complete your project.
